MATCH-MED – Usability heuristics for evaluating healthcare applications for smartphones
Mobile devices, especially smartphones, are playing an increasing role in healthcare, enabling the delivery of complex m-health applications that allow the on-the-go care to patients wherever they are and whatever their circumstances. However, in order to assure patient safety, it is imperative to prevent usage errors. Thus, an important quality of such applications is usability. One way to conceptualize usability are heuristics for designing and evaluating graphical user interfaces. While such usability heuristics have originally been developed for desktop computer systems, they need to be customized to the specific kind of device and/or type of software to not miss specific usability problems. In this context, we aim at customizing heuristics used for evaluating the usability of healthcare applications for smartphones.
